Lakeshore Seawalls / Inland Retaining Walls
Lakeshore Seawalls
Whether on Lake Michigan or on one of Michigan’s Inland Lakes waterfront homes, marinas and businesses typically need to install a seawall to help protect their valued property from erosion and possibly flooding. Seawalls are a key shoreline feature used commonly to protect waterfront investments in Michigan.
While many types of seawalls exist, Tucker Marine specializes in the installation, repairs and maintenance of Stone Revetment Walls, Rip Rap Seawalls and Steel Sheet Pile Walls for lakefront properties.
Although we do offer land based seawall installation, our barges allow for waterfront delivery of materials, stones and steel used for seawall construction that is not accessible by land. Waterfront delivery minimizes any property damage that might occur from land-based construction or material transport and delivery.
If you are not sure what type of Seawall you should install Tucker Marine’s owner, Scott Tucker will be able to help you better understand the benefits of installing each type of seawall we offer. This will be the first step to helping you determine the type of seawall or repair service that that would be best for your property.
Types of Seawalls
- Stone Revetment Seawall: Stone Revetment Seawalls are built with large stone boulders; this type of Seawall is installed on the shoreline of Lake Michigan. This is a structure that absorbs or deflects incoming wave energy to prevent erosion. It’s built at an angle hence a less harsh method of dissipating waves and preserving the original shape of the shoreline.
- Limestone Rip Rap Seawalls: Limestone Rip Rap Seawalls are built with smaller rip rap limestone; this type of Seawall is installed on the shoreline of inland lakes. A rip rap seawall is the same type of wall as a stone revetment wall, the only difference being is it is built on a smaller scale with less tonnage needed than a Great Lakes seawall.
- Steel Sheet Pile Seawall: Steel Sheet Pile Seawalls are built with either hot rolled or cold rolled interlocking steel sheets, this type of Seawall is installed on both Lake Michigan and Inland Lake shorelines. Steel Sheet Pile Seawalls are heavy, durable and sturdy walls. They are able to last a lifetime if installed correctly with the proper length of sheet and proper whaler and tie-back system.
